Reading, without the connection
Read the KJV offline on iPhone
The full King James Version lives on your iPhone in Versefold. You can read it without an internet connection. Other translations and the AI-assisted study tools need a connection, so it helps to know the difference before you settle in to read.
Start with the Bible that is already on your phone
Open Versefold and choose KJV from the translation picker at the top of the reader. Choose the book and chapter you want, then read. There is no account to create before you can begin.
If you are preparing for a flight, a quiet retreat or a place with an unreliable signal, open the app while you still have a connection. Check that you are reading KJV, then try the same chapter in airplane mode. That simple check makes the boundary clear on your own phone before you need it.
What works offline, and what needs a connection
An additional translation that you recently opened should not be treated as a complete offline Bible. If reading without a connection is the goal, choose the bundled KJV. The app's support page keeps this distinction explicit.
| What you want to do | Connection needed? |
|---|---|
| Read the bundled KJV | No. The full text is stored on your device. |
| Keep your own highlights, notes and reading position | These are stored locally on your iPhone. |
| Read an additional translation | Yes. Additional translations are provided through a connected service. |
| Ask Unfold for an explanation or create a guided study | Yes. AI-assisted features use a connected service. |
| Search by meaning | Yes. This is an AI-assisted feature. |
A small reading routine that travels well
The point is to make reading possible where you are. You do not need to turn every offline session into a completed study or a new set of notes.
- Choose a passage before you leave. A single chapter is enough to give the session a clear beginning and end.
- Read the whole passage once before marking a phrase. Let the surrounding sentences remain part of what you remember.
- Keep a short note in your own words if something needs another look. You can return to the study tools when you have a connection.
- When you finish, leave the reader where you want to return. Versefold remembers your reading position on that device.
Your notes stay with your reading
Versefold keeps your personal reading material on your iPhone. It does not require an account or a social profile. Invoking a connected feature is a separate action from simply reading the bundled text.
Settings includes Export my data, which saves a readable file of your material. Keep an export somewhere safe if you want a separate copy. Export is not a promise of automatic sync or a completed transfer to a new phone. The support page explains the current import limitation.
If a passage will not open
Check the selected translation first. A network message while opening a connected translation does not mean the bundled KJV needs the internet. Switch to KJV and try again.
If KJV reading still does not work, contact support with your iPhone model, app version and the book and chapter you were opening. Avoid sending private notes unless you deliberately want to share them.
A quiet place to read, wherever you are.
